Care & Cleaning – Timber Bed Frame (Livos Eco Stain Finish)
Your bed frame is finished with Livos natural eco oil/stain, made from plant-based ingredients that protect the Tasmanian timber while allowing it to breathe. To keep it looking beautiful for years, follow these simple care tips:
Regular Cleaning
- Dust weekly with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth (microfibre is best).
- Wipe in the direction of the grain.
- Avoid harsh cleaners, sprays, or silicone-based polishes — they can damage the natural oil finish.
- If needed, use a mild natural soap solution (a few drops in warm water) and wipe dry immediately.
Protecting the Finish
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heat, or moisture.
- Wipe any spills promptly to prevent stains or swelling.
Futon Mattress Maintenance Instructions
Our futon mattresses are handmade in Melbourne using natural, sustainable materials such as cotton, wool, foam, and latex. To keep your futon comfortable, supportive, and fresh for many years, please follow these care and maintenance tips:
Regular Rotation & Flipping
- Rotate weekly for the first 3 months, then once a month thereafter.
- Flip your futon regularly if it’s a two-sided model (cotton or cotton/wool futons).
- One-sided or latex-layer futons: rotate only; do not flip.
- Regular rotation helps the filling settle evenly and prevents body impressions.
Airing Your Futon
- Air your futon monthly in a well-ventilated room or shaded outdoor area.
- Stand it on its side or lay it flat in gentle sunlight (avoid strong, direct sun).
- This keeps the fibres fresh and discourages moisture build-up or odours.
Keeping It Clean
- Use a washable futon cover or protector to keep your mattress clean.
- Spot clean only:
Use a slightly damp cloth with mild natural soap.
Blot gently; do not rub or soak.
Air dry completely before use. - Never machine wash, steam clean, or dry clean the futon mattress itself.
Maintaining Loft & Comfort
- Occasionally roll or pat your futon to re-fluff the natural fibres.
- For sofa bed futons, rotate across the fold monthly to prevent a crease forming.
Base & Ventilation
- Use your futon on a slatted base with good airflow (slat gap under 7.5 cm).
- Avoid placing it directly on the floor for long periods, especially in humid areas.
- Keep the room well-ventilated to prevent dampness and mould.
Long-Term Care
- Re-fluff every few months by standing or rolling the mattress gently.
- If storing, keep it flat and covered with breathable cotton, not plastic.
Refreshing the Natural Fibres
- Over time, you may rejuvenate your futon by airing it thoroughly and lightly massaging the surface to loosen compacted cotton or wool.
- For long-term users, professional futon refurbishment or refill service is available (contact Back to Bed for details).
